
Sport Diving in Russia and Tomsk Region began to develop almost simultaneously.
Exactly 10 years ago, in the spring of 2010, first Sport Diving Tomsk Region Championship was held in Tomsk, where the regional team was formed for participating in the Russian Championship. The team consisted of Ivan Rozhkov, Ekaterina Grankina, Roman Dashevskiy and Anastasiya Nesterova.

Two persons made the decision to develop new perspective discipline of underwater sport in Tomsk Region: TRUSF president Natalia Grechikhina and Tomsk Region team honored coach Alexey Grankin. The latter offered Igor Suchkov, who was a TRUSF member and very experienced Tomsk scuba diver and instructor, to engage in joint training of future Tomsk Region sport divers. Results of their joint work exceeded all expectations.

In the first year Ivan Rozhkov and Ekaterina Grankina qualified for the national team by winning 1st Russian Championship, which took place in Moscow’s Olympic Sports Complex swimming pool on 27-30 May 2010. Then, they won at European Championship that took place in Kazan on 2-4 August 2010.
First ever decision to develop new discipline of underwater sport in CMAS – sport diving – was announced on 2007 General Assembly. RUF president Anna Arzhanova, at that time CMAS Sport Committee president, proposed to form international commission for sport diving and instructed this commission to create rules of the new sport. Officially, as a discipline of underwater sport, sport diving was introduced as an exhibition sport competition at CMAS General Assembly on May 2008 in Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt). Presidents and representatives of national underwater federations participated in this competition. First official international CMAS sport diving competition (European Championship) was held in the city of Kazan (Russia) in 2010.
In Siberian region sport diving expanded boarders for the competitors and became accessible not only to finswimmers, but also to ordinary scuba divers, Tomsk higher education students, Nayada, Afalina and Skate scuba diving club members.
First ever international sport diving competition Snow Fins was held in Tomsk in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
As of today, among all the achievements TRUSF has considerable victories and results in sport diving: decade’s best sport diver Ivan Rozhkov became world, European and Russian champion and records holder, world cup champion; Ekaterina Grankina – European and Russian champion; Pavel Makarov – world cup and Russian champion. As well as many other Tomsk sport divers continuously became medalists of All-Russian and international competitions.
